CORPUS CHRISTI – After not fielding a complete squad in nearly three weeks, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi cross country teams will get back in action in a big way, as they head to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Both teams are coming off first-place finishes in the Islander Splash the last time they competed, but will have to work extremely hard to finish toward the top on Saturday, as the meet plays host to several of the top teams around the nation.
In all, the men's race features 11 teams in the top 30 in the National Coaches Polls, while the women have even more with 13 teams featured in the national rankings.
The field is also the largest the Islanders have competed in, as the meet has been broken up into two different races to accommodate the 75 men's teams and 86 women's teams. Both Islanders teams will run in the Blue Race, with men's 8k starting at 10 a.m. CT while the women's 6k will start at 10:40 a.m. CT.
Every team in both of the blue races are ranked in their respective regions, while the men's race features 16 of the top-100 individual finishers from the 2012 NCAA Championships including five All-Americans.
The A&M – Corpus Christi men and women are both set to have seven runners in the meet. Both teams are among the top 15 in the South Central Regional rankings with the men cracking the top 10 at No. 8, while the women are sitting at No. 12 in the region.
This will be the Islanders' final tune up before they head to Lake Charles, La., to compete in the Southland Conference Championships.
