CORPUS CHRISTI – Shawn Flanagan will get his 14th season started at the helm of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Friday, Aug. 29, as the men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Rio Grande Valley Relays in Edinburg, Texas.
The meet is set up in a two-runner relay format. Each team will run two sets of two miles for a total of eight miles.
The Islanders will look to repeat their recent success in this meet, as last year the men's team grabbed all of the top five spots and the women secured the three top finishes.
"I anticipate that we will have a good outing there," Flanagan said. "The teams have looked good in practice thus far and it's looking promising."
Both teams enter this weekend ranked in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings. After finishing the 2012 season in the eighth spot, the men's team comes into the 2013 ranking one position higher in the seventh slot. On the women's side, it heads to the relays ranked 14th in the region.
