CORPUS CHRISTI – Very few coaches have achieved as much as Shawn Flanagan, Islanders Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, has in his 32-year career. Flanagan will now look to achieve the same success in the community while still leading his student-athletes in the classroom and on the track. The 13-year Islanders' head coach has been approved by the Corpus Christi City Council to serve as a representative of pedestrians for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee of the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC).
"I am very excited about the chance to serve," Flanagan said. "I think achieving the goal of making the city more accessible to bikers, runners and walkers would provide a great benefit to the community as a whole. I think my experiences will allow me to provide useful input in this process."
Flanagan's experience as the Islanders cross country and track and field coach along with his personal experience as a runner and walker made him a qualified candidate. As a member of the committee he will provide input and suggestions to the TAC and to the city on what the community needs along with what they can improve upon in regards to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
The Islanders and Flanagan will be hosting their annual four-day cross country camp starting on Thursday, July 11. For more information or to register click here or contact Coach Flanagan at: 361-825-3212 or by email: Shawn.Flanagan@tamucc.edu.
