Meet Your Islanders: Paul Hansel, Cross Country
Paul Hansel is a freshman on the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi cross country team. At the first meet of the season, Hansel teamed up with Jeremy Juarez to take second place with a time of 37:53 at the Rio Grande Valley Classic. Hansel helped the Islanders take the top four spots of the RGV Classic. At the Islanders Splash, Hansel assisted the Islanders in taking four of the top 10 spots with a time of 26:59. As a senior at Cuero High School Hansel won the state championship in the 1600m with a time of 4:20. During his high school career he earned Second Team All-State and First Team All-State in cross country.

Q: How did you acquire the nickname Buster?
A: It's my middle name. It runs in my family. My dad goes by Paul and I go by Buster.
Q: Do you have a goal that you want to reach before graduating?
A: I'd like to make it to the 3000-meter national steeplechase meet.
Q: What do you plan on doing after graduating?
A: I'm not quite sure yet. I'm just enjoying life living day-by-day.
Q: What drives your passion for running?
A: I'm just trying to be the best and I enjoy the competition.
Q: Outside of cross country what are your hobbies?
A: I enjoy going fishing.
Q: What do you like most about Coach Flanagan?
A: He's straight forward. If you're running slowly he will tell you and if you're running well he lets you know you're doing good.
Q: How would your teammates best describe you?
Q: Which do you prefer running with or without music?
A: I prefer to run without.
Q: Do you have a quote that you try to live by?
A: "You can't teach your body to quit."
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?
A: My brother.
