Patrick Kimeli Named Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Patrick Kimeli has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Kimeli earned the award for the third time this year following his performance on Saturday at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. 

For the second straight year, the junior finished in seventh place in the men's 10k to qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The native of Eldoret, Kenya crossed the line with a time of 30:55.9 to become the sixth runner in the last seven years to represent the Islanders at the NCAA Championships.   

The junior helped pace the No. 9 South Central Regional ranked men's team to a ninth-place finish, two points behind Stephen F. Austin. 

Kimeli will represent the Islanders at the 2011 NCAA National Championships on Monday, Nov. 21, in Terre Haute, Ind. at 11 a.m. CT.
