Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country hosts its annual Islanders Splash at West Guth Park this weekend. The college 5K race is on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and the middle/high school race starts Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
Last week the Islanders had a good showing at the Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic with the men coming in first place and women second in the team standings. Patrick Kimeli was the top finishing collegian runner for the men and second overall in San Antonio last Friday.
Julia Sambu was the top finishing member on the women's side coming in sixth.
Women's teams scheduled to compete are the Islanders, Angelo State, UTPA, St. Mary's University, Texas A&M-International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UTSA and UT Arlington.
"It's going to be a competitive meet with the schools coming in, we're hoping for a good outing ," said head coach Shawn Flanagan "It'll be a little muddy, but we'll be fine. On Saturday there will be about 2,500 middle/high school kids competing which will be great."
Schools competing in the men's race are Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Angelo State, Texas A&M-International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UTPA, UTSA and UT Arlington.
