The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country team returns to action Friday night with a trip north to San Antonio. The Islanders will be competing in the Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic hosted by UTSA.
This will be the team's first meet since the Bronc Buster Relay with last week's Texas A&M Invite getting rained out in College Station. Both the men's and women's field will have several schools from the USTFCCCA regional rankings.
The last time out, both the men's and women's squads won their respective divisions. Daniel Barlow and Patrick Kimeli were first on the men's side with BreAnna Briggs and Julia Sambu finishing first in the women's.
"In the women's race, it's Texas and UTSA that we are concerned about. Texas is ranked 5th in the Region and it would be good to run close to them. UTSA will be tough on their home course. On the men's side, it's UTSA that we are concerned about," said head coach Shawn Flanagan
"We have a lot of question marks with this being our first full competition, but both teams appear, based on our practices, to be further ahead at this point then we were last year so I am optimistic about our chances."
