RONOH RUNS AT NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEARTerre Haute, Ind.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Anne Ronoh competed in her second straight NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. Ronoh finished in 188 with a time of 21:56.8.
Ronoh went out strong running the first 2K in 6:36, and at the 4K mark she posted a time 14:09. Finishing two spots ahead in the final standings was the South Central regional champion Silje Fjortoft who finished in 186 and with a time of 21:56.0.
It was the second straight year for the senior to reach the nationals. The lone Southland Conference representative, Ronoh reached the national meet with a sixth-place finish at the region meet. She is the lone Islander female to compete at the meet and joins former Islander Shadrack Songok as the only A&M-Corpus Christi runners to qualify.
"The outcome wasn't as we had hoped it would be," said cross country head coach Shawn Flanagan. "Anne is a runner who competes on heart and emotion which showed again today. She was able to finish in front of a lot of good runners and we're very proud of her achievement. Qualifying twice for nationals isn't anything to shake a stick at."
The individual winner was Angela Bizzarri of Illinois who finished with a time of 19:46.8. Winning the team title was Villanova, who had six finishers in the top 60 to take the title.
