CROSS COUNTRY RETURNS TO ACTION WITH ISLANDER SPLASH
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country is back in action this weekend to host their annual Islander Splash. The Islanders will host several regional and conference teams on both the men's and women's side. In addition there will be over 3,000 middle and high school athletes competing.
On the men's side, scheduled to compete are UTSA, UT Arlington, McNeese State, Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M Kingsville and others.
"In the men's race we will see if we can compete with some of the best Southland programs," said cross country head coach Shawn Flanagan. "We have a few injuries going into the meet but I think that by Friday we can put good teams on the line that can compete for the title in both divisions."
The women's side will feature Rice, Texas, UT Arlington, UTSA, McNeese State, Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M Kingsville and others.
"Our women we will have a chance to see how we do against some of the best competition in the region with Texas and Rice as well as some of the best South land schools," said Flanagan.
Some of the high schools scheduled to compete are Texas-South Lake Carroll, Belton, Boerne Champion, Mercedes, Katy Steven Lakes and many more.
The meet will start at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 8:20 a.m. all taking play at West Guth Park. College runners compete on day one with area middle and high school athletes taking their turn on day two.
