Islanders Set For Southland Conference Tournament Match against ORU

CONWAY, Ark. – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will be looking to continue making Islanders history on Friday afternoon when it takes on Oral Roberts in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament on the Central Arkansas campus. The team will be looking for the first tournament win in school history to add to a season that already boasts the most wins in school history and the best Southland finish since joining the league.

The Islanders (21-10) will face Oral Roberts (15-14) in the third meeting between the two teams this season. The Golden Eagles were swept by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at the Dugan Wellness Center at the start of the league schedule, while ORU turned the tables with a 3-0 win during the return match in Tulsa, Okla.

It will be the second Southland Conference Tournament appearance in school history for the Islanders, while league newcomer Oral Roberts will be making its first trip to the league tournament.

First Team All-Southland pick Shannon Hullum will lead the Islanders team into the tournament, with the lone senior on the team collecting a team-high 304 kills during the regular season. Brianna Brink is second with 283 kills and Ivy Baresh is also above 200 kills with 260 on the year. Second Team All-Southland member Brooke Alverson is at 199 kills on the year, and leads the team with 97 total blocks on the season.

Micah Nolan is tops on the team with 469 digs in the regular season, while Logen Bourque has a team-high 1,045 assists.

The team will face ORU and Libero of the Year Bruna Silva in the opening round. Silva had a team-best 562 digs while Sheina Fernandes leads the way with 294 kills on the year. Tatum Fredeen has 241 kills and Jessica Pancratz rounds out the top three with 203 on the year. Laura Taylor has a team-high 1,095 assists while running the Golden Eagles offense.

The winner of the match will move on to face the winner of the No. 2-seeded Sam Houston State and No. 7-seeded Nicholls in the semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m.
