Islanders Fight For Tournament Seeding in Homestretch of Regular Season

In addition to being the final two home matches of the regular season for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi this week, contests against Lamar and McNeese State will go a long way in helping determine seeding for the Southland Conference Tournament that is being held next week in Conway, Ark. at Central Arkansas' home court.

The Islanders (19-10, 10-6 Southland) are locked into a three-way tie for fourth place with Stephen F. Austin and Oral Roberts after falling to SFA on Tuesday night. The team will try to bolster its seeding starting on Thursday night when they play host to Lamar (10-20, 2-14 Southland) in the penultimate match of the regular season. Senior day will come on Saturday as Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will honor the lone senior on the team, Shannon Hullum, before the match against McNeese State.

The Islanders are led this season by Hullum's 278 kills, a career-high for the native of Van, Texas. Hullum is followed in the team rankings by sophomore Brianna Brink with 263 and freshman Ivy Baresh with 240 on the year. Juniors Logen Bourque and Micah Nolan hold team leads in assists and digs, respectively. Bourque has totaled 951 assists on the year, while Nolan has 421 digs in 2012.

Sierra Whittaker's 316 kills will lead Lamar, while Wendy Krell (289) and Cortney Moore (221) have also passed the 200-kill plateau. Alex Morford leads the team in assists with 649 on the year, and Megan Schwartz is tops in digs with 323 this season.

In the first meeting between the two teams, the Islanders rallied hard but came up short in the first set before taking the final three for a 3-1 match win in Beaumont.
