Islanders Face League-Leading Central Arkansas in Final Stretch of Road Swing
The Islanders (16-7, 8-3 Southland) are near the top of the league, and can position themselves for a run at a Southland Conference title with a pair of wins this week. Central Arkansas (22-3, 10-2 Southland) will try to avenge its first loss of the season, a 3-2 loss to the Islanders, while Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will try for the season sweep after the win in the Dugan Wellness Center on Sept. 13.
The Islanders are led by Shannon Hullum's 230 kills on the season, followed by Brianna Brink with 197, Ivy Baresh at 181 and Brooke Alverson at 14- to round out the group of players over the century mark in kills. Logen Bourque has 753 assists on the season and is at 2,936 for her career, needing just 64 more to become the only player in team history to reach the 3,000-assist mark. Micah Nolan has a team-high 327 digs in 2012, and is closing in on the 1,500-dig mark for her career with 1,436 as an Islander.
Jessica Hays' 362 kills lead the Sugar Bears, with Alicia Dittrich (224), Taylor Hammonds (197), Jessica Nagy (193), Scout Brooks (187) and Heather Schnars (115) all topping the 100-kill mark during the year. Marissa Collins leads UCA with 1,141 assists while Hays' 206 digs also leads the team.
After the Thursday night match, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will travel to Tulsa for the return trip against Oral Roberts. The Islanders picked up a 3-0 meeting earlier in the season in the second match of Southland Conference play.
