Islanders Travel to Lamar, McNeese State For Southland Conference Road Swing

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will look to extend its Southland Conference winning streak this week, playing on the road versus the Lamar Lady Cardinals on Thursday, Oct. 11 in Beaumont, and then traveling to Lake Charles, La. the next day for a match against the McNeese State Cowgirls.

The Islanders (13-6, 6-2 Southland) will look to set a school record for consecutive wins over the next two matches, needing one to tie and two to surpass the previous best of five set during the 2006 season.

Lamar (9-12, 1-6 Southland) will return to McDonald Gym after three straight matches on the road against McNeese, Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas. McNeese (6-14, 1-6 Southland) comes into the match after facing Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts on the road. The Cowgirls have lost their last two while Lamar has lost five in a row.

Shannon Hullum leads the team with 190 kills on the year, while Ivy Baresh (155), Brianna Brink (155) and Brooke Alverson (118) have each surpassed the 100-kill plateau. Logen Bourque has a team-high 629 assists on the year while also adding 155 digs. Micah Nolan leads the team with 299 digs and Baresh is second with 191 this season. Alverson has earned 64 total blocks to lead the team, pacing the team in both block solos (9) and block assists (55) heading into the upcoming matches.

Lamar has two players with more than 200 kills, with Sierra Whittaker (220) and Wendy Krell (207) heading the Lady Cardinals offense. LU has two players with a significant amount of assists as Alex Morford (497) and Madi Martin (262) setup the Cardinals attack. Megan Schwartz leads the team with 250 digs, and Krell is tops with 48 total blocks.

McNeese has five players over the century mark in kills, including a tie at the top with both Courtni Bauer and Amber Fryer having 151 kills each. Kelly Graham leads the Cowgirls with 572 assists, Whitney Ellisor has 231 digs and Bauer also leads the team with 53 total blocks.
