The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will be back on the road for another Southland Conference swing through Louisiana this week, with a match against the Nicholls Colonels scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Thibodaux on Thursday night, and a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in Hammond.
The Islanders (9-6, 2-2 Southland) will try to snap a two-match skid in conference matches this week against Nicholls and SELA. The Colonels are 5-8 overall, but sport the same 2-2 mark in league play as Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The Lady Lions are 5-7 on the season, and sit at 1-3 in conference action.
Leading the way offensively for the Islanders is senior Shannon Hullum with 141 kills on the year. She is one of four players with 100-plus kills on the year, with Brianna Brink (131), Ivy Baresh (126) and Brooke Alverson (106) comprising the other three spots. Alverson also leads the team in total blocks, collecting 54 at the net so far this season.
Micah Nolan is 13th in the nation with 0.52 service aces per set, and leads the way on the team with 231 digs. Baresh is second at 152, while Logen Bourque is also over the century mark with 114. Bourque also has a team high of 474 assists on the season as the primary setter.
For the Colonels, Jennifer Brandt has 117 kills to pace the team, while Nancy Taylor has collected a team-high 265 assists in 2012. Jessica Addicks tops the stats with 42 total blocks, and Jeanne Logarbo is at 156 digs to lead the way for Nicholls.
Courtney Donald's 176 kills lead the Lady Lions, while Veronica Turk is also above the 100-kill plateau with 114 on the year. Donald is tops in two Lady Lions categories, adding a team best of 31 total blocks. Becky Bekelja has a team-high 412 assists, while Megan McMillin sports 206 digs to pace SELA and Bekelja has also reached the century mark with 103 digs.
