CORPUS CHRISTI – Tyger Holt has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Holt earned the award for her performance last week against Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts.
Holt had a huge week for the Islanders, helping her team knock off the top two teams in the preseason Southland Conference polls. Holt had six kills on eight attempts to hit for a .750 percentage against Central Arkansas while collecting two block solos and eight block assists as the Islanders handed the Sugar Bears their first loss of the season.
On Saturday against Oral Roberts, Holt led her team to a sweep over the Golden Eagles with a career-high 13 kills on her birthday while needing just 17 attacks for a .765 hitting percentage. She also added three more block assists as the Islanders opened league play 2-0. The Sugar Bears had lost just two sets all season before the Islanders won a 3-2 battle in Corpus Christi, improving to 9-4 on the year. Overall, she hit .760 on the week with no attack errors, while picking up two block solos and 14 block assists for 16 total blocks.
Holt and the rest of the volleyball team are in action tonight at Northwestern State. After the midweek affair, they return home to host Sam Houston State next Saturday.
