Volleyball Looks to Keep Streak Alive in First Southland Road Match

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball will look to win its third straight Southland Conference game on Tuesday night when they travel to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State. The two teams will meet in Prather Coliseum for a 7 p.m. start to the league match.

The Islanders (9-4, 2-0 Southland) come into the match having won three straight games overall and the first two league matches of the year. NSU (8-5, 0-1 Southland) lost its first league contest to Stephen F. Austin last Friday, but they won their final two matches of the weekend when taking part in the SFA tournament.

Brooke Alverson comes into the match after earning Defensive Player of the Week by the Southland Conference. Alverson leads the team with 44 total blocks and has 95 kills on the year. Shannon Hullum has the highest kill total on the team at 130 total, while Brianna Brink is second with 119 and Ivy Baresh rounds out the top three with 115. Logen Bourque has 431 assists this year and Micah Nolan has a team-high 197 digs in 2012. In addition to the digs, Nolan is tied for eighth in the NCAA with 0.56 service aces per set.

Stacey DiFrancesco leads the Lady Demons with 131 kills on the year and is followed closely by Mackenzie Neely, who has 128 this season. Keelie Arneson has a team-high 223 digs in 2012 and Emily Sweet has 455 assists on the year.

The last meeting between the teams resulted in a five-set battle that the Islanders took by a 3-2 final in Natchitoches during the 2011 season. It was just the second win over NSU in eight tries since the teams began playing each other.
