CORPUS CHRISTI – Ivy Baresh has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Baresh earned the award for her performance over the weekend in the Mean Green Volleyball Classic in Denton, Texas.
Baresh led the Islanders with 37 kills last week as the team went 3-1 in the final matches before the start of Southland play. She earned all-tournament honors and finished the week with a team high 37 kills while also adding four aces, 38 digs and nine block assists.
Baresh had a career-high 15 digs and eight kills to start the week against UT Arlington as the Islanders earned just their second victory ever against the Mavs. In the North Texas tournament, she performed consistently, picking up nine, nine and 11 kills to help the team to a second place finish. In all, she had nine block assists and 38 digs during the week for the Islanders.
Baresh and the rest of the volleyball team will be back in action on Thursday against Central Arkansas in the Islanders home opener. It will also be the "Wash Out" game, with fans encouraged to wear blue as Texas A&M - Corpus Christi tries to open Southland Conference play with a victory.
