Islanders Head North to Compete in TCU Invitational

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will spend the second weekend of the season in north Texas as the team takes part in the TCU Nike Invitational on the TCU campus. The Islanders are schedule to play Army, TCU and SMU in the tournament, and will stay in The Metroplex for a Monday, Sept. 3, against UT Arlington.

The Islanders ride a three-game win streak into the tournament and are 3-1 on the season. After going 2-1 at the Baylor Classic, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi beat Texas – Pan American 3-1 in a midweek match at the UTPA Fieldhouse in Edinburg.

On Friday evening at 4:30 p.m., the Islanders take on Army, and finish up the weekend against TCU at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and against SMU at 4:30 p.m. the same day. The team will stay in the area during the weekend before finishing off the trip against UT Arlington at 1 p.m. on Labor Day.

Host TCU is 2-1 on the season, picking up wins against host Belmont and Alabama A&M in the Belmont Invitational, while dropping the season opener against Northern Colorado. Army is also 2-1, getting victories over Quinnipiac and Stony Brook, while taking a loss against Indiana. SMU is 1-2 on the year, with losses against Cal State Fullerton and Georgia Tech coming after opening the season with a win against Charleston Southern.

Brianna Brink leads the Islanders with 47 kills on the season, with Brooke Alverson right on her heels at 41 kills on the season. Ivy Baresh is just behind the top two, picking up 37 kills in the first four matches of her collegiate career. Micah Nolan had 34 digs in the most recent match against UTPA to bring her season total to a season-high 83, while setter Logen Bourque has 155 assists to lead Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

The match against TCU will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in Islanders history, while the Army and SMU contests will be the first between the teams.
