Islanders Volleyball Signs Tyger Holt to National Letter of Intent

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team made a big addition to the team on National Signing Day, bringing in 6-2 middle blocker Tyger Holt as the newest member of the Islanders family.

Cassandra Marie Tyger Holt is a 6-2 middle blocker from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada who will be an incoming freshman next season. She currently attends Lambrick Park Secondary School where she plays for head coach Chris Kotougas on the Lions team.

Expected to be a force in the middle for the Islanders, Holt has been a first team all-star in back-to-back years at the high school volleyball provincials, while leading her team to a second place finish at the provincials this past year. During 2011, Tyger's summer provincial team won nationals.

Holt is a strong defensive player who uses her height to her advantage on the block. In addition to volleyball, Holt was named the provincial all-star game MVP following her senior season of basketball.

"Tyger is a really good athlete, somebody we expect to come in and help us right away," said head coach Tony Graystone. "Middle Blocker is a position where we have had a hard time finding some real stability and finding someone we can anchor the team around.

"I think Tyger will do that, so she will get an opportunity pretty quick. She has a great personality and is someone we liked first time we talked to her. She is a big addition to program."

Holt will add to a group of upperclassmen that have been in Graystone's program since his first year on the Island, and they will be bolstered by the addition of talent to the Islanders team.

"We will have girls that spent the last couple of years growing up and figuring things out leading us," said Graystone. "Now it is time to make a move in the conference and take that next step.

"We had a great spring, and I thought they were good everyday and a turning new corners all the time. Our freshmen will be talented and push us, but I think we will be driven by returners more than anything."
