Meet Your Islanders: Sarah Sanchez, Volleyball
In her first season as an Islander, Sarah Sanchez played in 12 matches, while tallying 11 kills, 18 digs and four blocks. She set a new personal best of seven digs against Texas Southern. At the conclusion of her high school career at The Woodlands High School she was a two-time First Team All-District selection, won Highlander Award for team leadership and led her team to a 40-7 season.

Q: What would you say is your ideal job?
A: My current major is PT so after I finish school I'd like to go to Physical Therapy school. I would really like to work with athletes and help get them back in the game.
Q: What is something most people don't know about you?
A: I am really into graphic design, art and photography. Before going into Physical Therapy I actually had to pick between going to art school or going into PT.
Q: How would your team best describe you?
A: Goofy, wild, aggressive and artsy.
Q: What has been your most memorable game?
A: That's a tough one there are two. I'd have to say, one was when we played against UCA, we lost, but it was a well played game. We played hard and the game went hand in hand until the end. We lost, but I look forward to playing them next season, looking for the win. The other game was against Northwestern, it was a great all-around game and we won.
Q: What do you like most about your coaches?
A: They truly know a lot about volleyball. They are very hard working and give us great feedback. They get you to perform to the best of your abilities.
Q: How would you best describe your team?
A: I love all the girls on the team and we are really close. We are a unit and when we play together if one of us is off we work together to get them back up and going.
Q: What is your favorite time of the year?
A: I'd definitely have to say fall because I love playing and being with the team.
Q: Do you have any superstitions or rituals before games?
A: I always wear a band on my left arm. Before the games I go to the training room an hour before the game. I hangout in the locker room, listen to music and take a five hour energy.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of volleyball?
A: I like to go to the beach and go watch a lot of movies with the girls on the team. I also like drawing and photography.
Q: Do you have any nicknames?
A: Sa
Q: What would be your ideal vacation trip?
A: I've never been out of the country so I'd like to go somewhere like Europe or Italy. I also like snowboarding during the summer or winter would be okay with me as long as it's somewhere out of the country.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Sushi, Japanese food.
Q: Do you have any personal goals for this upcoming season?
A: For our team to win conference. I would like to be the best and most consistent outside hitter.
