The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will travel to Edinburg this weekend for a spring tournament hosted by Texas – Pan American. In addition to the Islanders and Lady Broncs, Texas A&M – International, Texas A&M – Kingsville and Universidad Autonomy de Nuevo Leon will participate in the tournament.
The Islanders will face each of the other four teams, with each scrimmage consisting of two games to 25, instead of the normal best-of-five match format in college volleyball.
It will be the first time Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will face outside competition, and head coach Tony Graystone views it as an opportunity to see how his team has progressed over the spring practice schedule.
"This will be our only spring competition this year," said Graystone. "Our players are really excited, and are looking forward to competing against other teams.
"We've made a lot of progress this spring, so I am really looking forward to seeing us compete on Saturday.
The tournament is set for a 10 a.m. start at UTPA Fieldhouse on campus of the host Lady Broncs.
The Islanders will face TAMUK at 10 a.m. and TAMUI at 11 a.m. before a scheduled lunch break. When action picks back up, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will face UTPA beginning at 1:30 p.m., before rounding out play at 2:30 p.m. against UANL.
