The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball Team will host the McNeese State Cowgirls this Saturday in an important Southland Conference match between the two teams. The contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be held in the Dugan Wellness Center. The team will hold a free youth clinic and an autograph session sponsored by New York Life following the match.
The Islanders come into the matchup with an overall record of 11-15 and a 3-6 mark in league matches. The Cowgirls are 7-16 this season, including a 2-7 mark in Southland play. McNeese won the last meeting between the two teams a year ago in Lake Charles, La.
Brooke Alverson sits at 199 kills on the year on a .221 hitting percentage to lead her team into the match. Brianna Brink is the only Islanders player over the 200-kill plateau, with 211 this season. Shannon Hullum (185), Jessica Korda (126) and Tina Chavis (114) are the other Islanders players with over 100 kills.
Setter Logen Bourque leads the team with 865 assists, just 99 away from her career-best total of 964 a year ago, and has the second-highest total in the league this year. Micah Nolan sits at a team-high 490 digs, the highest individual total in the Southland Conference and third-highest in the nation.
Nicole Bowden and her 275 kills lead McNeese offensively, while Taylor Bustamento is at 200 kills on the year. Becky Bekelja has a team-high 855 assists, while Whitney Ellisor leads all Cowgirls players with 348 on the year.
At the conclusion of the match, the Islanders players will be autographing team photos for fans, as well as hosting a free youth volleyball clinic for attendees.
