The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will try to play the role of spoiler on Tuesday night when they host UTSA, who is first place in the Southland Conference, in a 7 p.m. match at the Dugan Wellness Center. Gold Buyers of Texas, who will be handing out playing cards and beverage koozies to fans when they enter the match, will sponsor the match.
The Islanders are currently 9-10 overall with a 1-3 record league play. The Roadrunners come into the match with a record of 10-8 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Southland matches. UTSA has yet to lose a set in the four matches against conference opponents.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will be led into the match by Brooke Alverson, who is second on the team in kills (155) while being tops in hitting percentage (.225). Brianna Brink has the team lead with 160 kills while Isabella Arcidiacono had a career-high 19 kills in the Islanders last match, a win over Sam Houston State. Arcidiacono totaled 35 kills and a .373 hitting percentage in two Southland Conference matches last week.
Logen Bourque set a new personal best with 57 assists against Stephen F. Austin last Thursday and has a total of 667 assists this season, which is fifth in the league. Micah Nolan is third in the Southland both in digs per set with a 5.14 average and in overall digs with 365.
UTSA's Whitney Walls and Elisa Huskey are tied for the team lead with 194 kills apiece and are seventh and eighth respectively in kills per set among Southland Conference players. Kelsey Jewasko is the league leader in digs per set at 5.70 and has 376 overall. Kelsey Schwirtlich is also top among Southland players with 10.45 assists per set and has 690 assists overall.
