The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will be hosting the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks in the first Southland Conference home match of the season on Thursday night. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Dugan Wellness Center.
In the first-ever "Wash Out" match for the Islanders, fans are encouraged to show their team pride by wearing blue to the match to help "Wash Out" the Ladyjacks. In addition, Islander ROTC will be handing out water bottles to the first 300 fans in attendance.
The Islanders come into the match with a record of 8-10 overall and 0-2 in Southland play. The team is hoping to get a lift from the home crowd in the first league match of the year on their home court. SFA comes into the meeting with a mark of 8-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The two teams met twice last year, with Texas A&M – Corpus Christi taking both matches. The wins were the first ever by the Islanders against the Ladyjacks.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is led into the contest by Brooke Alverson with her team-leading 135 kills on the year. Brianna Brink is second with 132 while Shannon Hullum rounds out the trio of Islanders in triple-digits with 113 on the season. Logen Bourque leads the team with 560 assists while Micah Nolan is tops in digs with 312 on the year. Brink is second with 143 and Bourque rounds out the top three with 142.
The Ladyjacks top attacker is Mary Catilin Bottles at 179, along with three other players above 100 kills. Katzy Randall is second with 162, Jill Ivy comes in third with 123 kills and Sabrina Burns has 120 this season. Paige Holland leads the team with 673 assists while Madison Hanlan has a team-high 344 digs.
