The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will begin Southland Conference play this week with a pair of in-state road matches. The team will travel to play UT Arlington on Thursday, Sept. 22 in a 7 p.m. match. Following the opener, they will head south to San Marcos for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 24 against Texas State.
The Islanders head into the pair of matches with an 8-7 record after going 2-2 at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston in the final pre-conference contests. UT Arlington is currently 4-10 on the year after winning two-of-three at the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational last weekend. Texas State is 9-5 this season, winning all three matches in the Mean Green Invitational at North Texas.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is led into the week by Brooke Alverson and her team-high 122 kills and .236 attack percentage. Brianna Brink is second on the team with 121 kills and 131 digs. Logen Bourque leads with 513 assists and Micah Nolan is tops with 291 digs. Tina Chavis paces the team defensively with 44 total blocks, while Alverson is close behind with 42 total blocks, including a team-best seven block solos.
