Islanders Volleyball Travels to UTPA for Third Meeting of the Season

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will face the Texas – Pan American Broncs for the third time this season on Tuesday night when the two teams play a non-conference match in Edinburg. The teams have played a neutral site once and on the Islanders home court before the final match of the season between the two comes at the home of the Broncs.

The Islanders are 5-5 on the season after going 2-1 this past weekend at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islanders Classic. UTPA is now 1-9 after a 0-3 weekend at the same tournament. The teams met for the first time at the season-opening Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston State, with the Islanders winning a 3-1 contest. The second time came just two days ago on Saturday at the tournament as Texas A&M – Corpus Christi picked up a 3-0 final this time.

The Islanders will try for the season sweep while the Broncs are hoping the third time, along with home-court advantage, is the charm in the final meeting between the two this year. Brooke Alverson will lead the visitors into the match against UTPA. She is tops on the team with a .204 hitting percentage among players with more than 200 attacks as well as second on the team with 29 total blocks. Logen Bourque has a team-high 334 assists to go along with 87 digs and 18 total blocks. Tina Chavis leads the Islanders with 33 total blocks this year.

Following the first midweek match of the year, the Islanders will travel to Charleston, S.C. for this weekend's Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. The team will face off against North Florida and host College of Charleston on Friday before wrapping up tourney play on Saturday with a pair of matches against UNC Wilmington and Wyoming.
