After a week of practice coming off a 2-1 start to the season and the programs first-ever win over a BCS opponent, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will return to action for four matches at the Marriott Volley Brawl on the campus of Valparaiso in Indiana.
The Islanders will face Evansville and Murray State on Friday, while taking on host Valparaiso and Ball State to round out tourney play on Saturday. The team has never faced Evansville, Murray State or Ball State, and is 0-1 in the only meeting against Valpo in team history.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will be led into the match by middle blocker Brooke Alverson. Alverson earned all-tournament honors last week at the Sam Houston Volleyball Invitational after putting up 28 kills, two block solos and 14 block assists. The sophomore also added five service aces as the team beat Rutgers in the season opener and followed that by scoring the third-most points by a team in NCAA history with 109 points in a four-set win over Texas – Pan American. The only loss came against the host Bearkats on the home court.
Logen Bourque was named honorable mention in the Southland Offensive Player of the Week voting after dishing out 106 assists, adding 10 total blocks and 12 kills during the tournament. Jessica Korda was second on the team with 22 kills and had three service aces during the invite.
