Islanders fall in three sets at UT Arlington, tournament hopes still alive

ARLINGTON - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team fell in three sets (25-23, 25-10, 25-17) on Thursday night at Texas Hall in Arlington. Emma Ridley posted another double-double with 12 kills and 18 assists.

In the first set, the Islanders jumped out in front 2-0 with a kill from Ridley to open the match followed up by a Mavericks attack error. UTA took the lead for most of the set with their largest lead at 10-6. Ridley helped knot the score at 13 with a kill and two errors by UT Arlington.

The teams were tied twice more in the set at 20 and 21 before Texas A&M - Corpus Christ lost 25-23 in the opening set.

UT Arlington capitalized on two early mistakes in the second set and didn't look back in going up 2-0 in the match following a 25-10 win. Logen Bourque led the Islanders with two kills in the set.

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi again fell behind early in the final set and could not overcome a balanced UTA attack. Ridley had five kills in the final set, but it was not enough for the visitors.

Five Islanders were in double figures in digs with Micah Nolan leading the way at 19, Ridley picked up 18 and Bourque had 14while Jessica Jennett and Shannon Hullum each notched 10.

Next up for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will be a trip to San Marcos to face the Texas State Bobcats at 2 p.m. on Saturday. For the Islanders, a win and they'll return to the Southland Conference Tournament. They will need a win by Northwestern State over Nicholls in order to qualify should they lose on Saturday.
