Seniors Emma Ridley and Jessica Jennett prepare for final home match of career

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi seniors Emma Ridley and Jessica Jennett will step onto their home court for the final time of their Islanders careers when they play Sam Houston State at the Dugan Wellness Center on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the two seniors set to be honored before the match.

Ridley, a two-year player for A&M - Corpus Christi, has shattered several records in her time at the University. She had a Southland Conference-best and new school record of 464 kills last season, her first on the Island. This season she is second in overall kills among Southland players with 371 while leading the league at 3.91 kills per set. Her 835 career kills ranks her fourth all-time in school history in less than two seasons with the team while her 4.11 kills per set career average is the top mark in the record books. She set multiple single-match records as well, including most kills in a match with 27 and most kills in a four-set match with 26. In addition to her kills, she also has amassed 503 digs in her career. Originally from Phoenix, Ariz., Ridley is a management major.

The second senior, Jennett, is a four-year player from Houston that has started 97 matches in her career while playing in a total of 282. She has 30 career kills, 535 assists and 524 digs as she has been a versatile player in her time on the Island. Originally a setter, Jennett has moved to defensive specialist and libero to help the team in whatever way she can. She has career match-highs of 56 assists, 17 digs and five kills. She is eighth all-time in careers assists and 10th all-time in average at 1.90 per set. Jennett is a business finance major.

In addition the honoring of the seniors, it is also a chance for the Islanders to make headway towards the Southland Conference Tournament. Currently in a tie for eighth place with Nicholls at 5-8 in the league, they hold the tiebreaker over the Colonels by virtue of their victory earlier in the season. As a whole, the Islanders are 12-15 on the year while their opponent, Sam Houston, is also sitting at 12-15 on the year and 6-6 in league play.

It will be the third time the teams have met this year, with the Bearkats coming out on top on both occasions. They won a 3-0 match against the Islanders at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islanders Classic while A&M - Corpus Christi came up just short in their comeback bid during the first conference match. After falling behind 2-0, the Islanders rallied to even the match at 2-2 before losing the deciding fifth set by a 15-13 final in Huntsville.

If they are able to pick up the win, A&M - Corpus Christi will inch closer to clinching a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament for just the second time in school history.
