Volleyball looking to finish strong as season winds down

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team will play its second-to-last home contest of the season on Thursday when they host Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference match. It is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The Islanders come into the match with an 11-15 overall and 4-8 in Southland matches. The team has lost its last four outings and is trying to right the ship ahead of the conference tournament in Huntsville starting on Nov. 19. In order to qualify, they must finish in one of the top eight spots in the league standings. They are currently tied for ninth with SFA heading into the Thursday night match. The Ladyjacks are 11-16 overall with an identical 4-8 record in league play,

When the two teams met earlier in the year, the Islanders made history by beating SFA in a 3-1 (28-26, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17) contest. It was the first time since starting the program that A&M - Corpus Christi had beaten the Ladyjacks in a match.

Emma Ridley continues to lead the conference in kills per set with a 3.83 average and is second overall in total kills with 352. Logen Bourque is now seventh in both assists (849) and assists per set (8.94) heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. She is now seventh all-time in the Islanders record book for assists in a single season and is 38 behind the freshman record of 887. Micah Nolan is fifth in team history with 403 digs in a single season and holds the freshman record.

SFA is led in kills by Mary Kaitlin Bottles with 301 and is followed by Kelsey Owens who sits at 268 on the year. Allison Gideon is third in the Southland with 949 total assists and sits in ninth place with an 8.87 assists per set average. Madison Hanlan is fourth in the league with a 4.52 digs per set average and is fifth overall with 434 this season.
