Volleyball team falls against Central Arkansas in Southland Conference home match

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team lost a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) match against the top team in the Southland Conference on Thursday night at the Dugan Wellness Center. The University's ROTC program was the match sponsor and handed out free flashlights to all fans.

The Islanders are now 11-14 on the season and 4-7 in Southland Conference matches. The Bears are now 22-6 overall and 11-0 in league play.

The leading scorer for A&M - Corpus Christi was Isabella Arcidiacono with seven kills on the night while Emma Ridley contributed six.

The Islanders were never able to find a rhythm in the opening set as the Bears jumped out to a 6-2 lead. UCA went ahead by as many as 11 at 20-9 before closing out the set with a 25-14 final.

In set two, A&M - Corpus Christi came out much tougher as the two teams battled throughout with 18 tie scores and five lead changes. The Islanders took their first lead of the match at 2-1 in the set as the two teams traded points. Neither team led by more than one point until the Bears scored two in-a-row when the match was tied to make it 19-17. Kills from Ridley and Shannon Hullum tied it back up at 20-20 and the teams were deadlocked once against until Central Arkansas score three-straight point with the match tied to take a 25-22 final.

Set three saw the Bears lead throughout, but the Islanders were able to keep it close. After falling behind 5-1, A&M - Corpus Christi closed to within three at 10-7 on a kill from Arcidiacono. Trailing 18-12, the Islanders mounted a comeback that got them to within three points at 20-17, but they were unable to get any closer before falling 25-20 to end the match.

Logen Bourque led the team in assists with 22 while Brooke Alverson had a career-high four block solos on the night. Jessica Jennett got the start at libero and produced a team-high 13 digs in the match.

Next up for the Islanders on Saturday, Nov. 30 is Northwestern State. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. against the Lady Demons.
