Emma Ridley named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi senior Emma Ridley was named the Southland Conference's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, following a vote by the sports information directors in the league. It is the first time that Ridley has received the honor and the first time for an Islanders player since Lauren Paslay was named Offensive Player of the Week following the first weekend of the 2007 season.

Ridley helped A&M-Corpus Christi to a 2-0 record last week with wins over the Nicholls Colonels and the Southeastern Louisiana Lions to even their conference record at 4-4 on the season. It is the most conference wins in a season since winning seven in 2007 and doubles to total for each of the past two seasons. The 10 wins for the Islanders are also the first time the program has reached double-digit victories since the 2005 season.

"Emma's been playing exceptional ball the last few weeks," said head coach Tony Graystone. "She has been playing as well as we've ever seen in the last two years."

A huge part of that has been Ridley, who collected 25 kills and 20 digs against the Colonels. It was the second 20-20 match of the season for her. Against the Lions, she had a match-high 17 kills to go along with three service aces. She had a .387 hitting percentage against SELA and totaled a .279 percentage on the weekend.

"Specifically in Louisiana, she had two outstanding matches both offensively and defensively," said Graystone. "She scored a ton of points for us.

"She's at the center of everything we do."

For the season, Ridley is first in average kills with 3.91 per set and is second overall in total kills with 289. In Southland matches, she ups her average and is tops in both average kills and total kills with 156 overall and a 4.73 per set average. In less than two years as an Islanders player, Ridley is in the record books with a 4.14 kills per set average, the best mark in school history. She is also at 753 total kills, fourth all-time in the program's history.

Ridley and the Islanders will be in action on Tuesday night when they host Texas - Pan American at the Dugan Wellness Center. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. with live stats and video available by visiting www.GoIslanders.com.
