The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team will be making its longest conference road trip of the season this weekend when they travel to Louisiana for a pair of Southland matches. The Islanders will play the Nicholls Colonels on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and follow-up with a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
The Islanders are 8-11 overall on the year and now sit at 2-4 in Southland matches. The Colonels are 11-8 on the season and 3-3 in league matches. The Lions are 10-13 with a 1-3 conference mark.
A&M - Corpus Christi will be led by Emma Ridley and a trio of freshmen. Ridley leads the team in kills with 247 on the year. Logen Bourque is tops in assists with 596, the ninth-best single-season total in Islanders history and the third-best among freshmen. Another new face leads the team in digs, as Micah Nolan sits at 289 on the year. Brooke Alverson leads the team in hitting with a .283 hitting percentage. The trio of players all rank in the Top 10 of the Southland Conference in their respective categories.
Last time the Islanders were in action, they beat the Lamar Cardinals 3-2 in a match against one of the top teams in the Southland.
The Colonels' Jennifer Brandt leads the team with 207 kills on the year. Jordan Karst is tops on the team with 584 assists while Danielle Daigle leads the conference in digs per set with a 5.86 per set average and 428 digs overall.
The Colonels beat Jackson State in five sets on Tuesday for their last non-conference match of the year.
After the match, the Islanders will travel from Thibodaux, La. to Hammond, La. on Friday night for their 2:00 p.m. match against the Lions on Saturday.
