Flagstaff, Ariz. - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team lost a 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22) match to the host team in the Northern Arizona Fiesta Bowl Tournament late Friday night to end the first day of play.

The Islanders are now 1-4 on the season while the Lumberjacks improved to 2-3 on the year. Emma Ridley led the team with 17 kills on the night, her fifth double-digit kills match in five matches this season.

In the first set, the Islanders fell behind early and made it close but could never recover, losing 25-20 to trail 1-0 in sets. NAU jumped out to a 5-1 lead and stretched it to as many as six points at 13-7 midway through the set. The Islanders got to within two points at 20-18 but scored just two points the rest of the set to take the loss.

The Islanders were unable to get back on track in the second set as NAU pulled away for a 25-16 win.

The team came back strong in the third set, taking a 25-20 win to move within 2-1 of the Lumberjacks. With the two teams tied at 10-10, the Islanders scored six-straight points to take a 16-10 lead. After the first three points came on NAU errors, Ridley served up an ace, followed by kills from Isabella Arcidiacono and Shannon Hullum to put the lead at six.

The lead never got smaller than three points from that point on. With A&M-Corpus Christi leading 23-20, a kill by Ridley and a Lumberjack attack error finished the scoring in the third set.

The fourth set was another close one that came down to the end as the Islanders came up short by a 25-22 final. The set stayed within three points all the way to 11-11 before A&M - Corpus Christi ran off four-straight points to take the lead. A kill from Ridley, a pair of attack errors from NAU and a pair of kills from Arcidiacono made it 15-11. The score stood at 17-14 in favor of the Islanders before the Lumberjacks scored six-straight to reverse the deficit into a three-point advantage at 20-17.

Kills from Logen Bourque and Ridley closed the set to within one point at 20-19, but the Islanders were never able to get any closer as the teams traded points to 22-21 before the Lumberjacks finished the match with three-straight points for a 25-21 victory.

Ridley led the Islanders in kills with 17 in the match while Arcidiacono was close behind with 13 on the night. Ridley also added 10 digs for her third double-double of the season. Bourque led the team with 38 assists on the night while Micah Nolan finished with 11 digs to pace the team.

The Islanders will be back on the court at 11:00 a.m. in the morning to face Maryland Eastern Shore before finishing play at the tournament with a 6:30 p.m. match against Rider.
