Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team returned to practice following its weekend trip at the Mississippi State Maroon Classic. The Islanders broke in several newcomers over four matches in Starkville which resulted in a 1-3 start to the 2010 season.
"The results were not what we wanted in terms of wins and losses, but we liked what we saw from the team." said head coach Tony Graystone.
With game action under their belt, the Islanders are looking to improve from this past weekend as they continue to work on getting better. Monday the team spent practice working on individual drills and as the week continues they will work on putting in the game plan for the upcoming weekend.
Isabella Arcidiacono is one of the many freshmen that played well at times, but must work on being consistent with kills while cutting down on attack errors.
"Bella is coming along like we thought," said Graystone. "Against Little Rock she had a good match, but now we've got to get her more consistent with her game."
"We've got to get more players to the right and center so that we aren't relying so much on Bella and Emma."
This weekend the team returns to the road, heading to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the Northern Arizona Fiesta Bowl Tournament. The Islanders will face host Northern Arizona on Friday at 8 p.m. and then play two matches on Saturday. The second day will start with a match against Maryland Eastern Shore at 10 a.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. match against Rider to close out the tournament.
"We're going to try and cut down on our errors which we think will lead to better on court success against our opponents this weekend." added Graystone.
Live stats will be available at www.NAUathletics.com for all matches during the tournament.
