ISLANDER RECRUITING CLASS RANKED IN TOP 100 NATIONALLY

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball program had one of its strongest recruiting classes ever this season, picking up seven high school signees to put them in top 100 recruiting classes in the nation. They are also rated as the second-best signing class in the Southland Conference when PrepVolleyball.com recently released their rankings.

The seven signees are early signees Micah Nolan at libero, Logen Bourque at setter and Brooke Alverson at middle blocker as well as spring signees Isabella Arcidiacono at outside, Jordan Flemmer at middle, Paige Hoffler at libero and Sarah Sanchez at opposite.

Head coach Tony Graystone and his coaching staff started the process of bringing the Islander program into yearly contention for the Southland Conference Championship.

"It was really important to start off with a strong recruiting class because the best way to turn the program around is to improve talent," said head coach Tony Graystone. "They will help immediately as well and be a good set of players that will be with us for four years.

"They will continue to get better and help take the program to new levels."

In addition to being one of the top 100 classes in the nation, the Islanders ranked second-best in the Southland Conference behind Texas State and ahead of Central Arkansas and Lamar, three teams that were at the top of the standings this past regular season.

"We were going through the recruits and were up against other teams from the Southland and it was important for us to get some of those kids," said Graystone. "We did a nice job of identifying the talent for what we needed and going out and getting those players.

"We were very happy about the class we signed."

The signees will bring several new faces to the program as Graystone begins his second year at the helm of the Islander program and help the team be more competitive while building the program through new talent.

The 2010 season for the volleyball team will kickoff at the end of August in the Mississippi State Maroon Classic with hometown fans getting their first look at the team on September 10-11 when the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islander Classic returns after a year hiatus. The tournament will feature the Islanders hosting Sam Houston State, Texas Southern, Houston Baptist and Villanova.
