ISLANDER VOLLEYBALL CLOSES OUT SEASON AT HOME

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will play the final two games of the 2009 season this weekend at the Dugan Wellness Center. They will take on UT Arlington in a 4 PM match on Friday and face Texas State on Saturday at 2 PM.

The Islanders come into the weekend with a 9-20 season record and a 2-12 Southland Conference mark. UT Arlington comes into the match at 11-15 and 7-7 in Southland matches. Texas State now sits at 18-12 on the year and 12-3 in Southland Conference play.

Last weekend the Islanders swept Southeastern La. and Nicholls in 3-0 results on the road. They will be looking to continue the momentum and end the first season for head coach Tony Graystone on a high note.

"We are mostly looking to follow up on our last two matches where we played pretty good on the road," said Graystone. "We hope to follow it up at home this weekend but both matches are going to be tough tests.

"We are making progress and want to finish the season strong."

Emma Ridley will lead the Islanders into the match. Ridley has 428 kills and led the conference coming into the final week. Courtney Wypiszynski has 824 assists on the season, good for eighth place in the Islanders single-season record book.

Friday will be a rematch of a tough loss earlier in the season as UT Arlington took a five-set match in Arlington.

"We played them to five earlier in the year but we just came up short at the end," said Graystone. "Hopefully we are able get a better result this time."
