In the midst of a five match road swing, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team enters the final weekend of the trip looking to secure its first Southland Conference win of the season and break back into the win column. The Islanders face Southeastern Louisiana on Friday in a 7 PM match and end the trip against Nicholls on Saturday at 4 PM.
TAMUCC comes into the match against the Lady Lions with a season record of 7-20 overall and 0-12 in Southland Conference matches. SLU sits at 8-15 on the year and 4-8 in Southland only matches. They have won their last two matches coming into this Friday's tilt.
Emma Ridley comes into the match just three kills short of the 400 mark for the year. She has already set a new record with her current 397 kills and looks to widen the gap over the previous high of 373. The transfer from Tulsa has exceeded expectations this season and has been an offensive force in the conference.
Ridley currently is in second place in both overall and conference only matches for kills. She has a 4.14 kills per set average for the season, second only to Chloe Smith of Central Arkansas. In Southland matches, she holds a 4.04 kills per set average and is also second to Smith. Ridley is second to Sam Houston State's Carli Kolbe in total kills. Kolbe has 408 on the year, just 11 ahead of Ridley's 397.
Following the Friday night match, the Islanders stay in Louisiana to face Nicholls on Saturday afternoon before returning home. The final two matches of the season for the team come on their home court at Dugan Wellness Center. TAMUCC closes out the season with a match against UT Arlington on Friday, Nov. 13 at 4 PM and on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2 PM against Texas State.
