The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will be traveling to its third tournament of the season this weekend as they take the trip a few hours north to Houston for the Houston Baptist Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Islanders will be playing three matches during the weekend, two on Friday and one on Saturday against host Houston Baptist (4-5) at 12:30 PM. They begin the tournament against PENN (3-0) on 10 AM Friday morning and end the first day with a 5:30 PM match against Cal State-Bakersfield (4-4).

TAMUCC comes into the match with a record of 4-4 on the season after a pair of tournaments and a non-conference road match against Texas-Pan American. Although the Islanders are at .500 on the year to this point and have equaled the win total from last season, head coach Tony Graystone is looking for continued improvement and another strong weekend from his team.

Junior transfer Emma Ridley leads the team with 111 kills and has added 42 digs and five total blocks. Sophomore Jessica Korda is second on the team with 94 kills while putting in 21 digs and five block assists.

While Korda and Ridley have led the way on offense, the team is having more players start to contribute as it gets deeper into the season.

Freshman Courtney Wypisznyski is a 6'1" setter who has already amassed 251 assists as the primary distributor for the Islanders. She has also added 19 kills and 13 block assists with her height at the position. Junior Meagan Luber put up 13 kills in the Drake Invitational this past weekend.

This is the second-to-last tournament for the Islanders this season as they take part in the SFA Ladyjack Invitational next weekend in Nacogdoches. After that, the start of Southland Conference begins on September 24 in San Marcos against Texas State. The main focus of the next two tournaments is to get better and better heading into conference play.
