The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team looks to continue its fast start this weekend as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take part in the Hampton Inn Drake Invitational. The tournament features the Islanders, host team Drake, Valparaiso, Centenary and South Dakota.

TAMUCC comes into the weekend with a 3-1 record after going 2-1 in the season-opening UTEP Sun Bowl Invitational and defeating Texas-Pan American in a 3-2 thriller on the road this past Tuesday night. It was the first road win for the program since the 2007 season.

With the Islanders struggling to find rhythm on the court at UTPA, the condensed practice week was spent focusing on getting better at specific areas of need and helping bring along younger players looking to find their areas of specialty.

"We worked on things from Tuesday and put in a little scouting for the weekend," said head coach Tony Graystone. "This weekend is about getting everybody court time and having them learn how to contribute."

The Islanders will look to sophomore Jessica Korda and junior Emma Ridley to provide the bulk of the offensive output as the other team members grow into their own roles.

First up for TAMUCC will be Valparaiso at 1 PM on Friday, followed by their second match of the day against Centenary at 5:30 PM. The Saturday matches feature the Islanders against host Drake at 1 PM followed by the final match of the tournament against South Dakota at 5:30 PM.

Livestats will be unavailable for the matches this weekend.
