Natchitoches, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-20) against Northwestern State on the road in Southland Conference action.

The Islanders fall to 3-16, 1-8 in the SLC while Northwestern moved to 8-12, 3-7 SLC.

In the first set, the Islanders took an early 2-1 lead on a Jessica Korda kill. The Islanders fell behind 10-8 but were brought back even after a Kasey McBrearty kill and an attack error by the Lady Demons to make it 10-10.

A Meagan Luber service ace then gave the Islanders an 11-10 lead.

The Lady Demons proceeded to score four consecutive points to give Northwestern a 14-11 lead.

The two teams went back-and-forth over the next 18 points with each team scoring nine to give Northwestern a 23-20 lead. The Lady Demons then scored to take a 24-20 lead to get to match point.

After an attack error by the Lady Demons, a Markie Robichau kill gave Northwestern State the first set win.

In set two, the Islanders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a pair of attack errors by the Lady Demons and a kill by Korda. After two NSU points, Korda delivered another kill to push the lead back to two at 4-2.

The two teams battled to 9-9 before a Beth Fionda kill put the Islanders back on top at 10-9. NSU took an 11-10 lead before another Korda kill evened the set at 11-11.

The two teams traded points to 22-22 before consecutive points by the Lady Demons gave them a 24-20 lead and match point.

After an Islander timeout, TAMUCC came out and proceeded to score a pair of points to tie the match at 24-24 and give them new life.

After NSU scored to take a 25-24 lead, an attack error by the Lady Demons once again evened the score at 25-25.

It was not meant to be however, as consecutive attack errors on the Islanders gave the Lady Demons a 27-25 win and a 2-0 set lead in the match.

After the Islanders scored the first point on a Fionda kill in the third set, NSU scored five straight points to take an early 5-1 lead.

The Islanders were never able to get any closer the rest of the match as the Lady Demons jumped out to as much as a ten point lead at 14-4 and wore down the Islanders the rest of the way.

Later on, consecutive kills by Lauren Paslay and Fionda pulled the Islanders to within 17-9, but the Islanders were never able to mount a steady comeback.

The Islanders outscored the Lady Demons the rest of the way by a score of 11-to-8 but ended the match at a final of 25-20.

The Islanders were led offensively by Paslay as she recorded 11 kills. Korda added nine to come in second on the Islanders in kills. Molly McCabe recorded 38 assists on the night while Kandyce Nielson added 18 digs to lead the Islanders.

The Islanders are in action next against Lamar at Moody Fieldhouse with a 7 p.m. start time on Halloween, Friday, October 31. The Islanders also host Sam Houston State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
