Conway, Ark. -- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears on the road in Southland Conference action on Thursday night.

The Islanders fall to 3-15 on the year and 1-7 in SLC play while the Sugar Bears improved to 14-6, 6-3 in SLC action.

The Islanders started out behind early on, falling back 5-2 before scoring three straight points, courtesy of kills by Jessica Korda and Lauren Paslay, to match the Sugar Bears at 5-5.

The scoring was back-and-forth for most of the set, with UCA taking no larger than a two-point advantage at 11-9 in the early going. A kill by Kasey McBrearty and an attack error on the Sugar Bears quickly evened the score at 11-11.

After tying the match at 15-15 on a kill by Korda, the Islanders jumped ahead 19-16 on a service ace by Whitney Wehring, kills by Emily Gordon and Paslay and a service ace by Kandyce Nielson.

UCA then evened the score at 19-19 before a service error on the Sugar Bears once again gave the Islanders the lead at 20-19. It would not hold however, as consecutive points by UCA once again put them on top at 21-20.

A kill by McBrearty momentarily evened the match at 21-21 before three straight points by UCA gave the Sugar Bears match point at 24-21. The Islanders got within striking distance at 24-23 on a kill by McBrearty and a block assist by Korda and Diandra Torres, but they were unable to get any closer.

Amicha Williams ended the match with a kill for UCA to give them a 1-0 set lead.

In the second set, UCA jumped out to an early lead and the Islanders were never able to recover. With the set tied at 2-2, the Sugar Bears scored five consecutive points to take a 7-2 lead.

UCA extended the lead to 12-5 before the Islanders were able to get going in the set. Despite outscoring the Sugar Bears 13-to-12 over the next 25 points, the Islanders found themselves behind 24-18. An attack error on the Islanders ended the set in favor of UCA at 25-18.

In the third set, the Islanders scored first on a Molly McCabe service ace and proceeded to take an early 6-4 lead. UCA then scored four-straight points to turn the tables and gain a two-point advantage at 8-6.

After a UCA service error pulled the Islanders within 8-7, the Sugar Bears scored 12-of-19 points to gain a 20-14 advantage. After a service error on UCA put the score at 20-15, the Sugar Bears scored five consecutive points to finish off the match, winning the final set 25-15.

McBrearty led the Islanders offensively, recording seven kills while both Paslay and Korda recorded five each. McCabe led the Islanders in assists with 26 in the match while Nielson led the Islanders defensively, recording 15 digs.

The Islanders are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Natchitoches, La. to take on SLC opponent Northwestern State. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
