The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will play a 26-game schedule in its third season as a member of the Southland Conference and third under head coach Kimberly Martinez. The schedule includes seven matches against opponents with 20-plus wins a season ago.

The Islanders open their season with a trip to Tennessee to participate in the Lady Gov Classic to be held Aug. 29-30. They open the season against Tennessee-Martin before games against host Austin Peay and a non-conference meeting with Southland Conference-rival Northwestern State.

A&M-Corpus Christi returns home to the Coastal Bend the following weekend to host the annual Islander Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach Invitational. Joining the Islanders for their 2008 home debut will be the Big 12's Colorado, UALR, and Texas Southern. They open against Texas Southern on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. with a pair of games the next day. The Islanders face the Trojans and Buffaloes that Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. UALR was 22-9 a season ago.

The following weekend the Islanders hit the road for four games in Colorado Springs, Colo. in the Air Force Invitational. TAMUCC will face North Carolina Central, which went 21-13 the season before, and Florida Atlantic on the first day of the tournament on Sept. 12. Matches with Kent State (22-10 last year) and the host Falcons await on Sept. 13 in the final contests before the Islanders begin Southland Conference action after a two-week break.

"We look forward to facing solid competition this preseason," said Martinez. "It will help us prepare for what should be a competitive conference campaign."

A&M-Corpus Christi begins Southland action with three straight homes game. The conference slate begins with the Islanders hosting the 2007 SLC Tournament Champion and NCAA participant Texas State on Friday, Sept. 26. The Bobcats were 21-12 a year ago. The following day UT Arlington visits Moody Field House. The three-game homestand ends Friday, Oct. 3 with a contest against UTSA.

Five of the Islanders next six games are on the road. The trip begins with contests at Sam Houston State and Lamar on Oct. 10 and 11, respectively. The Cardinals, who join the Southland Conference West Division this season, were 25-9 a year ago. After a third road game at Stephen F. Austin (27-8) on Oct. 15, TAMUCC will host McNeese State at the Field House on Oct. 18. They return to the road with games at Central Arkansas (24-9) on Oct. 23 and Northwestern St. on Oct. 25.

A&M-Corpus Christi returns home to host Lamar on Halloween with a game with Sam Houston State the next day. After a midweek game at UTSA on Nov. 3, Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State come to the Coastal Bend on Nov. 7 and 8, respectively.

The regular season concludes with games at UT Arlington and Texas State on Nov. 14 and 15, respectively. Stephen F. Austin will host the Southland Conference Tournament on Nov. 20-23.
