The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's tennis team will host a pair of Southland Conference matches this weekend, playing Texas State on Saturday, and facing off against UT Arlington on Sunday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Both matches during the weekend will start at 12 p.m.
The tennis program will also be hosting a Campus Kids Day and Youth Registration Event in conjunction with the Corpus Christi Tennis Association before the match on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The CCTA will have kid-sized courts set up and the youth attendees will be able to play tennis with men's tennis team members, as well as get the Islanders autographs. There will also be face painting and other kid-friendly activities available, in addition to information on youth tennis programs throughout the community during the spring and summer months.
The women's team is currently 10-2 on the year, and improved to 3-1 in Southland Conference play with their last victory. Texas State is 10-3 on the year, but undefeated in conference matches at 5-0.
The Islanders are coming off of a 5-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana, while Texas State fell by a 4-3 score against Houston their last time out.
Freshman Chelsea Horan sports the best individual record for the Islanders with a 10-1 mark in singles play, the only loss coming against nationally ranked Rice. Sandra Burges is 8-2 on the season, while the duo of Burges and Horan is 7-1 in doubles play. Senior Mirna Cicak is the top player for the Islanders, playing to a 10-2 record at No. 1 singles.
