The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's tennis team will open Southland Conference play on Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. match against Central Arkansas. Due to the travel distance, the two teams will meet in Dallas at a neutral site.
The Islanders come into the match at 1-1 after defeating Prairie View A&M on the road to open the year, before falling to then-No. 70 Rice in the first-ever dual match at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. The UCA Bears are also 1-1 after opening the year with a win at home against Louisiana Tech, then losing to Arkansas – Little Rock on the road.
It will be the Southland opener for each team, with the Islanders coming in after a fourth-place finish in the league. UCA will be looking to improve upon a 12th-place finish a year ago.
After the match against the Bears, the team will return home for a Feb. 10, doubleheader against St. Mary's (TX) at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
