Texas A&M - Corpus Christi to Host Volleyball, Tennis Championships in 2013-14
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will serve as the host of the Southland Conference Volleyball and Tennis Championships in the 2013-14 school year, the league announced. It will be the first time that the Islanders have hosted the volleyball championship and the third time for the tennis championship.

Islanders Win First Southland Conference Tournament Match in Program History
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women’s tennis team won their first Southland Conference Tournament match in team history on Thursday, beating Northwestern State by a 4-3 final in a four-and-a-half battle that saw them beat the Lady Demons for the first time since 2007. Mia Matuszak gutted out a win at No. 6 singles on a hurt ankle to win the deciding point.

Both the men and women play Nicholls at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, while the men close out their schedule with a 2 p.m. match on Thursday.

A&M – Corpus Christi improved to 14-4 and 7-3 in Southland play with the victory.

UT Arlington used the momentum from a key doubles point to catapult past the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women’s tennis team, 5-2, on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in front of a crowd of 123. The Islanders, playing without Saturday’s heroine Mia Matuszak due to injury, fell to 11-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference action with the loss, while UTA is now 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the Southland.
