The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi tennis team will see both its men's and women's teams in action on Friday against two separate opponents. The men's team begins the day at 3 p.m. in Waco against No. 9 Baylor while the women conclude the day with a 6 p.m. Southland Conference match against Central Arkansas in Dallas.
The men are 1-3 on the season after a tough four-match road trip to being the year. The women have played just once, falling to No. 48 Rice in Houston.
In the first match, the Islanders top player Mirna Cicak was held out of competition while she recovered from the flu. She will be ready for her first action of the season Friday night as the team looks to get its first win of the year and open conference play with a good performance.
It will be just the second match for the women while Central Arkansas will be making its 2011 season debut on Friday in the 6 p.m. match. UCA finished last year with a record of 2-15 overall and were 0-11 in Southland Conference play.
The men will play nationally-ranked Baylor on the road earlier in the day at 3 p.m. It will be another tough test for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi as they work towards getting better before the start of league play. The Bears are 1-1 on the year after defeating Louisiana-Lafayette and falling to nationally-ranked Florida on the road.
The men will continue the road trip with a Saturday match against No. 49 TCU in Fort Worth. The Islanders and Horned Frogs will face each other in a 10 a.m. match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU is currently 2-0 on the season with 6-1 wins over both UT Arlington and Texas - Pan American.
