Waco - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team was in action for the first time in two weeks after starting play on Friday morning at the Wilson/ITA Texas Regional hosted by Baylor University at the Waco Racket Club.
Three Islanders were in action on the first day with another to follow on Saturday. Doris Kuselj, Bianca Discordia and LeAnne Mascall all participated in matches on Friday with each player winning at least one round.
Kuselj won her first match against Brittney Byrd of UT Arlington by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Kuselj moved on to the second round but had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury.
"We are disappointed for Doris, she was playing great," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "We have to be smart with an injury like this and what is most important is the spring."
Mirna Cicak is the only Islander in the main draw and will make her debut at the regional on Saturday as the top flight gets underway. Discordia and Mascall each split a pair of matches and will be back in action on Saturday at the tournament. Cicak's match is scheduled to begin at 3 PM on Saturday while Discordia and Mascall play in the early morning matches.
"We are looking forward to Mirna playing and the other girls getting back out there," said Moore. "Tomorrow is just another test for us to see if every player can play every point with intensity."
