Houston - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team completed a 6-0 victory on Friday afternoon to start the weekend with a win as they traveled to Prairie View A&M for a non-conference matchup before Southland Conference play this weekend.

The Islanders improve to 5-7 on the season with the Friday result. It was the teams first match since March 14 against UTSA as they had time off for spring break.

"They didn't complicate the match any and they got the win," said Associate Head Coach Gonçalo Figueiredo. "They made things easy on themselves after a long time between matches.

Singles were the only matches played and the Islanders won all six matches in straight sets. No.1 singles had Mirna Cicak defeating Melanie Brown by a 6-1, 6-1 score. In No. 2 singles, Nina Ciric closed out Melissa Guerrier 6-2, 6-1. Erika Iriarte won No. 3 singles over Munashe Makani in 6-1, 6-1 fashion. Alexandra Dyckman topped Bianca Simpson 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Pernelle Soulie beat Margaret Banks in No. 5 singles by a 6-0, 6-1 final while Fabiana Mersan closed out the match with a win over Charli Cooksey with a 6-0, 6-0 finish.

"They were in good shape," said Figueiredo. "They did a good job of getting prepared for tomorrow's SLC match against McNeese."

The Islanders now move on to Lake Charles, LA where they will play a SLC match against McNeese State on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the morning to finish up their weekend.

"The effort was good," said Figueiredo. "They worked hard in getting ready for McNeese and their conditioning was good after the long layoff."
