The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team fell by a 5-2 score at the HEB Tennis Center to Northwestern State in a Southland Conference home match.
The Islanders move to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in SLC play. The Demons are now 7-3 on the year and 2-1 in SLC action.
In the No. 1 doubles competition, Olga Bazhanova and Dragana Colic of NWLA beat Mirna Cicak and Nadia Filmalter of TAMUCC by a 9-7 score. The Demons Kathrin Lange and Biana Schulz also won in No. 2 doubles, taking an 8-4 win over Erika Iriarte and Alexandra Dyckman. The Islanders won the No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-5, with Fabiana Mersan and Nina Ciric knocking off Adna Curukovic and Suncica Strkic.
In singles competion, the No. 1 match pitted Cicak against Curukovic, with Cicak pulling out the win 6-3, 6-3. No. 2 singles saw Lange beat Ciric in a marathon match by a final of 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Bazhanova downed Filmalter in No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 score. No. 4 singles had Schulz and Iriarte squaring off, with Schulz coming out on top by a 6-4, 7-5 final. Dyckman won the No. 5 singles for the Islanders by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 tally. Mersan fell to Posada of NWLA in the No. 6 singles match by a 6-4, 6-1 score.
The Islanders are back in action next UTSA on March 14 on the road in San Antonio. Match time is slated for a 1 PM start.
